Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends and great food. To ensure a safe and fulfilling Thanksgiving, Florida Peninsula Insurance Company reminds you of some important safety tips.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Thanksgiving is the peak day of the year for home fires and related injuries. Please consider the following Thanksgiving safety tips below.
- Unattended cooking is the number one cause of fires. Someone should always be in the kitchen while cooking your Thanksgiving meal.
- Keep children away from the stove, hot foods, and liquids.
- Make sure your kitchen floor is clear of any tripping or slipping hazards.
- Before cooking, be sure the smoke alarms in your home are working by pushing their test button.
Do not forget about your four-legged family members as Thanksgiving could pose as a time of distress for them. According to the ASPCA, a few small pieces of boneless cooked turkey, a tiny taste of mashed potato, or a lick of pumpkin pie should not be a problem for your pets. However, do not allow your pets to over indulge, get into the garbage, and keep them out of the kitchen.
