According to Local 10, lives can be lost every second firefighters are dealing with burglar bars. Arnold Piedrahita, a Miami-Dade Fire Lt. stressed the importance of the knowledge on the dangers of these burglar bars. He states, "these bars do not have any type of mechanism or openings for the occupants to get out in case of a fire." Many homes are still equipped with burglar bars on their windows and the bars are not up to fire code, which means the bolted and welded types of bars are illegal.

State fire code requires every bedroom in a home to have a way to get outside from the inside. If you still want burglar bars on your home for safety, there are quick- release varieties available.
