The holidays are quickly approaching, which means the shopping has begun for presents for the little ones. Finding the perfect toy for your kids should involve a lot more than just going for the hottest trend. Here are a few tips to be aware of when shopping for toys this year.

1. Flame resistant: Toys with fabric material should be labeled as flame resistant or flame retardant.

2. Washable: In order to prevent your children from becoming sick, their toys should be washable, including stuffed toys and should be cleaned on a regular basis.

3. Non-toxic: Art materials such as paint, crayons, markers, etc. should be labeled as non-toxic. It only takes a few seconds for something to reach your child's mouth, no matter how carefully they are being watched.

4. Age appropriate: Consider your child's age before purchasing a new toy. For toddlers, avoid toys/games with small pieces which could easily be swallowed. Be sure to read the label to be aware of its contents. Most toys and games for children contain age specifications on the front or back of the box.

You should also stay on the lookout for product recalls. By visiting the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website, you will find a list of all the latest recalls on children's toys. We hope you will take our suggestions into consideration before planning your shopping trip this year. We wish you a happy and safe holiday season.
