Video games and board games aren’t the only games children engage in with friends at home. Although the “choking game” has been around for several years, according to a recent Sun-Sentinel article viral videos of children asphyxiating others have grown in popularity online, giving them the idea to try this deadly game with their friends.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the "choking game" is an activity that involves children strangling themselves to achieve a euphoric sensation. The CDC warns that it can can cause long-term disability and even death among youths. In 2008, the CDC reported 82 deaths attributed to the choking game and other strangulation activities during the period 1995--2007; most victims were adolescent males aged 11 to 16 years. Talk to your children about the dangers of playing the choking game, and educate them on the risks.
