With the start of a new year, there is no time like the present to conquer cleaning up the home. Begin the new year by taking some time to deep clean your home room-by-room and tackling outdoor chores. Consider these suggestions and keep your home clean and clutter-free in 2018:
Kitchens can become clutter collectors. Items which do not belong in the kitchen should be moved to their proper location. Consider donating items, such as small appliances, dinnerware, and cookware you do not use to local charities. Clean out your drawers, cabinets, pantry, and refrigerator and be sure to discard any unwanted or expired items. Once you have removed the clutter, wipe down all kitchen surfaces with a cleaning spray and a towel.
Along with all other rooms in the house, de-clutter before you clean. Empty drawers, shelves, and cabinets and remove items such as empty soap and shampoo bottles, old toothbrushes and expired medications. Next, clean and sanitize.
Bedrooms & Closets
Purge all unwanted clothing and mismatched items. Donate clothing, shoes, and accessories you no longer wear or fits. Deep clean your mattress and give your sheets and comforter a good washing. Dust ceiling vents, fans, accessories, and light fixtures. Move your bed and dressers to vacuum carpets and mop the floors.
Clear out the items in your garage and create piles of things you need, items to sell or items to toss. This is a perfect time to consider installing storage shelves and cabinets to remove items from the ground. Once items are neatly put away, sweep and mop the floor.
Remove debris and discarded items from your yard. As we saw in Hurricane Irma in September, Naples and Fort Myers were greatly impacted by Hurricane Irma. Much of the damage was due to outside clutter, or landscaping needs. Time is on your side during the first of the year, so gather estimates for any shutter, window, and roof repairs now, before the 2018 Hurricane Season begins.
