Fourth of July is right around the corner, and time to sport your red, white, and blue.  It is also time to refresh your memory on different safety tips.  Between the fireworks, grilling, and the beach, Fourth of July is one of the most enjoyable holidays of the year, but it is also one of the most dangerous.  Here are some safety tips on fireworks, grilling, and beach/water activities:

Fireworks Safety

  • Stay at least 500 feet away from firework shows
  • If you are setting off fireworks at home:
  • Never give fireworks to small children
  • Keep a supply of water nearby
  • Light each firework separately
  • Store fireworks away from children and pets

Grilling Safety

  • Never grill indoors
  • Use long-handled tools
  • Avoid loose clothing, which can catch fire

Beach/Water Activity Safety

  • Have young kids and inexperienced swimmers wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket when on or near the water
  • Do not dive headfirst
  • Be cautious of aquatic plants and animals

These tips will help you ensure a fantastic 4th of July.  We hope you have a safe and amazing day celebrating our country’s independence.  For more safety tips, visit the American Red Cross.
