Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy your family, friends, and a delicious feast. A Thanksgiving meal can be a lot of work for a host, and if proper cooking safety precautions are not in place, a day of thanks can turn into a disaster. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires. To ensure a fulfilling and safe thanksgiving for you and your guests, we would like to remind you of these cooking safety tips:
Never leave the kitchen unattended when you are cooking, and always keep an eye on your food.
Stay at home while cooking your turkey and other meals in the oven and check them frequently.
Keep children and pets away from hot appliances, foods, and liquids.
Should you be deep frying your turkey, be sure your fryer is used outdoors and away from buildings and flammable materials.
After working with raw poultry and meat, be sure to wash your hands and works surfaces.

Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year? As a host, you'll need to know how to carve a turkey and serve your guests. The last thing you want is for you to figure it out, or worse, for them to start chopping away at it themselves. Carving a turkey can be quite simple if you know what you're doing. We suggest you follow these simple steps by Real Simple.
1. Remove the String: Place the turkey on a carving board. Remove the string tying the legs together, using the tip of your knife.
2. Remove the legs and things: Cut through the skin which connects the breast and the drumstick. Slice down until you reach the joint. Using a paper towel, grab the leg and push down, separating the leg and thigh from the bird. Use your knife to slice through the joint.
3. Remove the drumsticks: Separate the drumstick and the thigh by cutting through the joint which connects them. Transfer the drumstick to a platter; set aside the thigh meat on a cutting board to slice later. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the other leg.

This month, Boca Helping Hands is Florida Peninsula's Charity of the Month. Their mission is to provide food, medical and financial assistance to meet basic human needs as well as education, job training and guidance to create self-sufficiency. Boca Helping Hands serves six hot lunches along with one family night dinner, and hands out over 5,000 pantry bags a month to those in need.
In our continued efforts to give back to our community, we will be hosting a Thanksgiving Food Drive and participating in this organization's Thanksgiving Basket Brigade to donate a complete Thanksgiving day meal to families registered at their facility.
