The Broward Partnership for the Homeless

The Broward Partnership for the Homeless has been helping individuals and families find their way back from homelessness since 1999. They offer comprehensive homeless services, including housing support, healthcare, dental care, workforce development, street outreach, behavioral services, and more.

Florida Peninsula Insurance Company has been supporting the homeless in Florida since 2012 by partnering with the Broward Partnership for the Homeless, helping to advance their mission to “reduce homelessness by promoting independence and self-worth through advocacy, housing, and comprehensive services.”

Throughout March, we hosted a Spring-Cleaning Clothing drive, where we collected gently used or new clothing for individuals experiencing or exiting homelessness. These items were sorted by volunteers at the Broward Partnership and used to restock their community closet. The closet provides free, essential clothing for interviews, social events, and everyday needs.

In April, Florida Peninsula employees volunteered with the Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers program, where they served lunch to individuals in need. This food service program operates 365 days a year, providing three meals a day to approximately 700 individuals across both the North and Central campus locations.

June marked our 4th Annual Cornhole Tournament, an internal fundraiser that benefited the Broward Partnership. The event not only raised funds for the non-profit, but it also built camaraderie amongst the 19 teams who participated. Team members who did not compete were encouraged to join the fun and cheer on their coworkers.

Virtual fundraisers such as Trivia and Bingo provide our remote employees with the opportunity to contribute to our mission of supporting the homeless in Florida as well.

The Broward Partnership holds a special place in Doug’s heart. Since joining Florida Peninsula in 2022, he has volunteered with the organization, saying that “If it involves food, I am in!” However, his connection runs much deeper. “I was homeless once,” Doug shared, “I lived on the streets and in my car. I have a special place in my heart for the folks at the Broward Partnership because I’ve been there.” Volunteering at the Broward Partnership helps him reflect on how far he’s come and provides him with the opportunity to help those in an all-too-familiar situation.

One memory that stood out about his experience at the Broward Partnership wasn’t just about serving the community, but it was about connecting with his coworkers. Doug reflected on a service event where the team stayed after to help clean the storage area. “It was a great bonding experience,” Doug commented, emphasizing that he got to connect with people he doesn’t regularly get to communicate with.

Florida Peninsula is honored to stand alongside the Broward Partnership by supporting the homeless in Florida through hands-on service events and intentional giving. If you are interested in joining the fight, you can click here to find out more about how you can help.
