Celebrate Safely this New Year’s Eve

New Year’s is a time to celebrate with family and friends, food and drink, and fireworks. Whether you are hosting or attending a New Year’s party, we want you to celebrate safely.  As such, Florida Peninsula Insurance Company would like to provide the following tips:

Hosting

Hosting a New Year’s party does come with responsibilities, as you are accountable for the safety of your guests. Be sure to remove and clean up any tripping or slipping hazards throughout your home prior to guests arriving. Offer your guests food and snacks and stop serving alcohol hours before the end of your party.  Before your guests leave, make sure they are safe to drive. If not, offer to order a ride-sharing service, cab, or a place to sleep for the evening.

Drinking and Driving
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), New Year’s Day is ranked as the day with the highest percentage of driving deaths related to alcohol. Never drink and drive. Have a designated driver or use a ride-sharing service to make sure you arrive home safely.

Fireworks
New Year’s Eve is one of the most popular days for firework shows. Be sure to have a responsible adult in charge of all firework activities. It is important to keep spectators a safe distance away, and always light fireworks off into an open area away from flammable materials. Light fireworks one at a time, and douse used fireworks in water before discarding.

We hope you keep these tips in mind to enjoy a fun and safe New Year’s celebration. Wishing you and your family a happy and safe 2020.
